I recieved a Certiticate of Graduation in NYIP of March 2009. I did cover the fundamentals of digital photography and planning on enrolling the advanced photography class.
Taking pictures is what I love to do, it's an interest that might bring me into something productive and maybe in a financial aspect. I am taking it slowly, working through it according to my capability, creativity and understanding about Photography. It is not easy to put it together.
"A great picture composed of a great subject, how you place your subject in a frame (apply the Rule of Thirds), composition, and simplicity". Be creative and if you don't have the 'eye of a photographer' then you are not ready to become a good photographer.
Tools is also important of becoming a good photographer. There are so much to learn about photography, techniques, rules and etc. So much more to discover and the most exciting part is, learning has no ending.
Three important guidelines for great photographs:

a good photograph has a clear subject or theme - seeing things around it doesn't mean that you can' take good photograph, it is clear that you have to have a clear subject, e.g a people, flower, animals, or your pet, and etc etc etc.
a good photograph focuses attention on the subject - let the viewer immediately drawn to the subject, or do not let the viewers guess who is the subject.
a good photograph simplifies - there are no distractions to your main subject.
I've learned a lot and still learning more about photography.
